MFG Update Number One Olympic Year 2012

Dear Athletes and Families
It is always good to welcome new members at the beginning of a new year and all recent arrivals are most welcome, among them, Simon, Toby and Angus have eased in very nicely.

I am also delighted to see Mark, Miriam, Rob and Harvey back in action and word has it that Ali is into Mayday for his long awaited pit stop next week. This should see him back on track (preferably grass), in a couple of months) following his knee “clean-out” Lee is still suffering, and we hope that all will be well with him soon.

On the downside Emma has gone to University and as yet no word, but I hope she is in with the athletes there. Also the prospect of an exciting Olympic year has so far failed to rally several clearly talented athletes notably older girls who clearly fail to realise how much above average they are and the pleasure and friendship which our sport can provide, as well as relaxation it provides while away from the important demands of exams.

But happily back to the large and enthusiastic majority who highly ranked to new comers have been wintering REALLY well. I have been very happy with the way you have applied yourselves and “the proof of the pie is in the eating. It has been clear to see from the results who among the MFG have made the most progress, there is clearly more to come. Thanks to Coach Matthew’s magnetism and organisational skills we have contributed greatly to the club’s competitive image and we showed up impressively at both the Surrey and SEAA Cross Country Championships. Stirling was our man in the SEAA indoor pentathlon an did well too.

Just to name a few, Kartik, Stevie, Ellie , Josie, Rob and Dom have all made significant progress, so very well done you guys, but I am sure that you all agree that our “Ferrari T Shirt” winner for January is Holly Haile , a worker and an achiever…congratulations.

I ask everyone to support the Sport Relief Mile and other events to be held at the Arena in March, by entering and by donating any unwanted Christmas presents for the Charity tombola on that day.

Talking of charity I pleased to say that my sign star bookmark project has so far raised £3305 for the Cecilia Barriga Memorial fund in support of Cardiac Risk in the Young.

PLEASE LOOK ON THE CLUB NOTICE BOARD TO SEE PHOTO COPY SAMPLES AND THEN SUPPURT THE CAUSE. I USUALLY HAVE THE PERSONALLY SIGNED ONES IN THE CAR

Thanks as usual to many parents who continue to be most supportive and well done to thoe who have graduated fron the “Standing still, ready to be mocked group”

The club is on the look-out for pole-vaulters, so if you or any keen, gymnastic friends who would like to try, please let me know soonest. Coach Ian (Johnston is a real expert, but he does, like me, expect commitment). He is hoping to start special sessions at Sutton Arena indoors this month.

Here’s wishing you all well for 2012. Have your targets ready for me next week .
